12 AXES / PROJECT GUIDE

Environment

How do you weigh environmental costs against economic benefits?

Environmental precaution↔Production growth

What is at stake

This axis contrasts precaution with the priority given to production growth. It does not question the existence of climate change. People can agree on established impacts while disagreeing about transition speed, who pays and acceptable residual risks.

A situation to think about

A new industrial facility could create jobs while putting pressure on local water supplies. Consider immediate gains, lasting costs, alternatives and whether the damage can be repaired.

How to read your position

The bar summarizes the direction of your answers in this set of questions. The center can reflect neutral answers or opposing preferences that balance out. A result near a pole does not imply agreement with every idea associated with that pole. Check how many valid answers contributed: skipped questions reduce the range of situations represented.

The contrast is an editorial simplification. Some practical policies combine both priorities. Write down one condition that would make you change your answer, then compare it with the situation above.
